Yūgen
Scope: Editorial, Illustration, Print, Layout design, Photography

This project involved designing a booklet that explored the relationship between text and imagery to enhance reader engagement. Yūgen, the title of the book, reflects a Japanese aesthetic centered on mystery and a more profound meaning in beauty. The content explores a personal trip to Japan, including the experience of culture shock, the anxiety of being in a foreign country, and the duality of isolation, all while blending storytelling with design.
The initial concept focused solely on photography from my trip, but later, illustrations were incorporated into the design. Despite this shift, the sketches continue to demonstrate an exploration of layout structures and media organization, showcasing the development of visual composition.
