Holywatr
This project involved designing a poster and album jacket for a chosen band or artist, focusing on strengthening technical skills while developing conceptual ideas and visual metaphors. Holywatr, an emerging band known for its distinct grunge and alternative aesthetic, served as the inspiration. Textured collages were created using original photography to reflect and deepen this theme, capturing an ambiguous, layered quality that complements the band's raw, atmospheric style. The final design translates the essence of Holywatr’s music into a striking visual identity.

Concept Process

With an urge to experiment, I decided to take the warped text from one of my original sketches and combine it with a photocollage.

I wanted the front and back of the album to flow together when opened, which explains the longer paper here. But I would still crop each side by itself to check how the visuals would look in black and white.

With an urge to experiment with typography more, I decided to take this opportunity to create the type myself! I already had an idea based on my sketches of warped/distorted text, so I created the band name and printed it out.
(Trust the process, ok?)
After a handful of attempts with the scanner, I was satisfied with some of the results... We won't talk about how many attempts it took.
(A lot.)

(We can work with this!)
Then with some editing magic and adding the collage background, now we are getting somewhere. Here are two draft versions that helped lead me to the final. Purple was a good choice, no?
